Most FBA freight trouble starts before the cargo leaves China

Freight into Amazon has rules a general shipment does not. A forwarder who quotes cheaply and gets one of them wrong costs more than the one who quoted honestly.

Every forwarder says it does FBA

Delivering into Amazon means a booked delivery appointment, cartons labelled the way the fulfilment centre expects and paperwork it will accept. Plenty of forwarders quote for it. Fewer do it every week.

Amazon will not clear your customs

Amazon does not act as importer of record. Someone has to clear the goods and pay the duty before they reach the dock, and a quote that is vague about who is the quote that grows later.

The right code, the wrong building

Fulfilment centre codes get reassigned, and the lists online copy each other’s mistakes. Freight delivered to an old address comes back as a redelivery charge, if it is accepted at all.

From shipment plan to check-in

From your Amazon shipment plan to a board full of bids

Amazon tells you where the cartons go. The marketplace finds the forwarders who can take them there, and they compete for the job.

  1. 1

Create the shipment in Seller Central

Amazon’s shipment plan names the fulfilment centre that will receive your cartons. That code is what you post.

  2. 2

    Post it on Ebbrate

Enter the fulfilment centre code and the address fills in from our directory, with the date it was last checked. Add the cargo, its value and the terms.

  3. 3

    Approved forwarders bid

Only carriers approved to deliver into Amazon on your lane, whose score clears the FBA tier, are invited. Each bid must beat the one standing.

  4. 4

Accept and follow it to the dock

Choose on price, transit time and record. Milestones and documents run to delivery, and the carrier’s payout is held until your claim window closes.

Built for FBA freight

An FBA freight forwarder you choose on evidence

The questions you would put to a forwarder before trusting it with an FBA shipment, answered before it is allowed to bid.

01

Only forwarders who actually deliver into Amazon

A shipment to a fulfilment centre is offered only to carriers approved for Amazon delivery on that lane, and only to those whose score clears the FBA tier. Everyone else never sees it, so nobody can underbid with a service they do not run.

  • Amazon delivery reviewed per lane, not claimed in a profile
  • Score earned on delivered shipments, under a published formula
  • Licence, cargo insurance and restricted-party screening checked first

02

Fulfilment centre by code, address checked

Type the code from your shipment plan and the delivery address fills in from a directory where every entry agrees across independent public sources and shows when it was last checked. A code we do not list is no obstacle: enter the address from Amazon as you would anyway.

  • Fulfilment centres in the United States, Canada, the UK and Germany
  • Where each address came from, and when it was checked
  • Your Amazon shipment plan always has the last word

03

DDP to Amazon, with the duty in plain sight

Because Amazon will not be your importer of record, most FBA freight from China moves DDP. Every bid splits origin, main freight, destination and duty, so a lower price is visibly a cheaper service and not a lower duty estimate.

  • Duty and import fees on a line of their own
  • Chargeable weight worked out in front of you
  • No charge appears that was not in the bid you accepted

04

Covered if cartons arrive short or damaged

The carrier’s payout is held until your claim window closes, so a valid claim after check-in can be paid from it. Customs holds follow published rules on who pays, decided before anyone books.

  • Payout held for the length of the claim window
  • Published rules for holds at export and at import
  • Documents, milestones and disputes kept with the shipment

Who bids, and what it costs

Free for sellers, and closed to forwarders who have not earned it

Posting an FBA shipment, collecting bids and booking one cost you nothing. The forwarders who may bid on it are fewer than on a general shipment, by design.

How to ship from China to Amazon FBA

What will it cost to land?

The DDP calculator splits a landed cost into freight, duty and fees for every lane that is open now.

Sea or air into FBA

Most shipping from China to Amazon FBA goes by sea, standard or express, because the saving on a full shipment outweighs the extra weeks when replenishment is planned ahead. Air is for the shipment that cannot wait: a launch, a reorder that came too late, a fast seller about to run out. Post the same cargo by both modes and the bids show what the difference in transit time costs on your lane.

Do you need DDP to ship to Amazon FBA?

Someone has to be the importer of record, and Amazon will not be. You can take that role yourself, with your own customs broker and bond, and ship on terms where you pay the duty. Or you can ship DDP, where the forwarder clears customs and pays duty and import taxes for you and includes them in its price. Most sellers shipping from China choose DDP for exactly that reason, which is why every DDP bid here shows duty separately from the service.

Shipping from Alibaba to Amazon FBA

Your supplier is the pickup address. Ask them to label the cartons to Amazon’s requirements before collection, since relabelling on the way costs time and money. The supplier and the fulfilment centre are both named on the shipment, and the supplier is screened against U.S. restricted-party lists, as you and the carrier are.

Amazon FBA warehouse addresses

The fulfilment centre comes from your shipment plan, not from your choice, and Amazon can send different cartons to different centres. Post each destination as it appears in the plan. If the code is in our directory the address fills in with the date we last checked it; if it is not, enter the address Seller Central shows you.

What an FBA freight forwarder actually does

Collection from your supplier, export clearance in China, the main sea or air leg, import clearance and duty at the destination, a delivery appointment with the fulfilment centre and the last leg to its dock. The forwarders bidding here do that physical work. The marketplace is where they compete for it, and where the rules, the scores and the money are kept in one place.

Before your first FBA shipment

What Amazon sellers ask before shipping from China

Still deciding? The rules for who may bid and for claims are published in full above, and the DDP calculator shows a landed cost before you post anything.

Can you ship from China directly to Amazon FBA?

Yes. Post the shipment with the fulfilment centre from your Amazon shipment plan as the destination. Only forwarders approved to deliver into Amazon on that lane are invited to bid, and the winner collects from your supplier and delivers to the fulfilment centre’s dock.

How do I ship from Alibaba to Amazon FBA?

Create the shipment plan in Seller Central, ask your supplier to label the cartons to Amazon’s requirements, then post the shipment here with the supplier as the pickup and the fulfilment centre as the delivery. Choose DDP if you do not want to act as importer of record yourself.

What is an Amazon FBA freight forwarder?

A forwarder that moves your goods from the supplier to an Amazon fulfilment centre and handles what that involves: export and import customs, duty under DDP, the delivery appointment and the paperwork the centre needs to receive the cartons.

How much does it cost to ship from China to Amazon FBA?

It depends on the lane, the mode and the chargeable weight, which is why the honest answer is a set of bids. Post the shipment and approved forwarders bid against each other, each bid itemised the same way. The DDP calculator gives a landed-cost estimate before you post.

Does Amazon pay for shipping to FBA?

No. Getting stock to a fulfilment centre is the seller’s cost; Amazon’s fees begin once the stock is received. That is why the freight price is worth competing for.

Which Amazon fulfilment centre should I ship to?

The one your shipment plan names. Amazon decides where inventory goes, sometimes splitting one shipment across several centres. Post each destination as the plan shows it.

Who is allowed to bid on an FBA shipment?

Only carriers whose licence, cargo insurance and company were checked by a person, who are approved for Amazon delivery on your lane, whose score clears the FBA tier and whose insurance covers your declared value.

What does it cost me to use Ebbrate?

Nothing. There is no booking fee, no subscription and no charge per auction. The carrier that wins pays a published commission on its own service, never on the duty it passes through to you.
